Species Report: The Raxes

Okay, I haven't told my brother yet, but here is the first of our SR (That's Species Report)

Introducing, the RAXES!

Species Name: Rax, Raxes,
A typical Rax specimen.

Home Island: Stellerax

Average Height: Medium

Powers: Various

Brief Summary: The Raxes are a fairly easy going species, which is why they were conquered by the notorious Orange and Black. Most Raxes of various elements live in the main city, Raxia City. A training centre, or school, known as Rax High has almost the same population of the actual "city". A few outlying villages are scattered around the island, namely Ta-Rax, Po-Rax, Le-Rax, and Ko-Rax. The population of the villages are quite small. All Raxes at some point go the the school, as it is a fun place to be! (Not to mention a great place to learn stuff) Not many rahi roam the island, and none are unique to Stellerax. All Raxes have a power, though it often isn't a normal elemental based power. Most Raxes are named after their power, ie, the Snifferax has a super sense of smell.

Notable Members: Snifferax, Fireax, Teleportax, Little Green Rax, Tacklerax, Teleportax, Poisonrax, Announcarax.

Toa Art 7

Sorry for lack of posts busy with life and all of that. So for now here is another Toa art picture.
This is probably one of my least favorites and may get a redo at some point. I did like how the mask turned out and the position of Patroni. (It is suppose to have an I at the end of her name)

The Toa, Part 1

And here is the first comic in the story of The Toa. I tried to make it in the styule kind of like the original Bionicle Comics, I think I succeeded fairly well.

The Toa

What happens when you cross Bionicle with Doctor Who?

You get time traveling Toa who wears the mask of Time. Duh!

So why is he a Toa of Light? Why not? Well, because the Vahi comes in gold, mostly. I thought about orange as a Toa of fire, but it just didn't fit

One day, when the Doctor was traveling, we went through a cave (Previously talked about), had a brief rest, and went on his way. what he did not know, was that this cave makes duplicates, and the Doctor, being a Time Lord, and also having a TARDIS with him, didn't notice the change. The duplicate, however obviously noticed the changes. he tried to get back, but the TARDIS also changed, and he wasn't able to get back to his own universe (Somehow the cave sent the Bionicle Doctor to the Bionicle Universe, and the Normal Doctor stayed in his regular one.) Confused and alone, The Doctor wandered about until he met a female Toa of Gravity, Toa Otua, and she was able to answer many questions the Doctor had, but was unable to tell him how to get home. Deciding he couldn't go home with his new appearance, he took Toa Otua with him (As he had just saved her life) and set out to explore this brand new Universe.

More information to come, such as why he now calls himself  The Toa!

Toa Art 6

So kinda slow right now around here but hopefully that should be fixed. I am planning on getting some information on the Islands from the Trinity Universe coming around soon.

For now here is yet another piece of toa art of mine. Say hello to Toa Awel toa of Sonic!
This one I feel quite good about as it turned out really good, particularly in the mask.

Self MOC: Toa Hanahtu

Toa Hanahtu, also known as Toa Han. My favorite Bionicle, which is one reason I choose him as my Signature-Figure.

He has quite a bit of backstory. that fact is obviously closely linked to why I like him so much. Here is a brief rundown:

Toa Hanahtu used to be a Po-Matoran from an unknown island. Most of his early life is a mystery, but at some point, he was granted a Toa stone and became a Toa. An unknown amount of time later, he lost his memory, and wound up in the army of Orange and Black. (More on that later) At some point, he was discovered by a group of Toa (Which included my brother's Sig-Toa, Onvermel) Who showed Hanahtu his destiny as a Toa. Hanahtu then joined Onvermel's team as a seventh member.

Toa Hanahtu is not his original name. With his amnesia, it is lost in time. He got his name, by meeting a Pohatu (Remember about The Cave? It means multiple versions of each character inhabit our universe), but this Pohatu, being from the Rocka T3 set, thought that Toa Hanahtu was very "Handsome". Hanahtu was still very dazed at this point, and thought that was his name, but he decided to shorted it to Han. Later, on some Naming Day, he game himself the name Hanahtu.

Hanahtu has a pretty basic build, based on that of the Toa Nuva. His legs are a slightly tweaked form of the kind designed by my brother, for Onvermel. His neck area uses those Mixel joints to give his head a full range or movement. It uses a bit of custom work, but when it comes to Bionicle MOCing, I am not shy.

Age range for Gen 2 compared to Gen 1

Greetings. I have had this thought in my mind for a while. is Generation 2 Bionicles really for a younger age group? Many have said it is for a younger age group. I once thought so but I am now believing that is not completely true. Now before you start thinking I'm sort of moron let me explain.

Here are the years of Bionicle and there age range

2001- Small 7+ Medium 7+ Large 8+

2002- Small 7+ Medium 7+ Large 8+ or 9+

2003- Small 7+ Medium 7+ Large 8+ or 9+

2004- Small 7+ Medium 7+ Large 8+

2005- Small 7+ Medium 7+ Large 8+

2006- Small 7-16 Medium 7-16 Large 8-16

2007- Small 7-16 Medium 7-16 Large 8-16

2008- Small 6-16 Medium 7-16 Large 9-19 or 10-16

2009- Small 6-16 Medium 7-16 Large 8-16 or 9-16 or 10-16

2012- Small 6-16

Now we reach our Generation 2

2015- Small 6-16 Medium 7-16 Large 8-16

So as we can see for the most part Bionicle has been for the range of 7-16 on average. In the first several years it was just for 7+ then it was given a cap to it's age at 16. With the reboot it's has been for on average 7-16. So with age range it's hasn't changes all that much. Small sets are the same age range as the last three years of Gen 1 and medium sets are still the same. Even the large (not really that large) for Gen 2 is the same as Gen 1.

With the new book being revealed it says the age range is for 7-10 years at a grade reader level 2-5. If I am correct this is the same as the last books we got from Gen 1. o again about the same.

Now looking at the actual sets for complexity. Gen 1 had for it's small set was around 14-40 pieces and Gen 2 has so far has around 65. Medium sets from Gen 1 were about 40-60 and Gen 2 is at 66-145. Finally large we won't go into as Gen 1 we do clearly see is much greater in piece count than Gen 2 however my point still stand. Looking at piece counts Gen 2 has more pieces and say they are more complex.

So what I have concluded is that it is not meant for a younger age but rather it just seems like that to most for the fact that we have gone older (those fans who have been around for most on Gen 1) we expect more of a challenge but we have gone older so things are less challenging. When I first got the original Pohatu form Gen 1 I needed help to build him but now I would never have any problem. The system to the new Bionicles are about the same. Put a few pieces to make limbs and a few more to make a body. In fact Gen 2 has more complex bodies than the Toa Inika build.

Again I believe that Gen 2 is just as complex as Gen 1 and is not meant for a younger age.

Toa Art 5

Let's continue with the toaart shall we. Today I present Toa Atoro toa of Ice.
I for the most part am happy with this one except for the positioning of the toa. With his shield in front of him it a rather messy appearance but to late now. His arms sadly turned out black when trying to make them silver but kinda didn't work. Anyways hope you like it.

Can Kopaka ever be not cool?

So randomly searching around the internet I came across this beautiful picture.
Now this picture I found by a video presentation on making it which can be found here. Just looking at the video it's amazing what one can do with a computer. This really to be just shows how cool Generation 2 Bionicle can be (visually). Sadly I have no where near the knowledge to create anything as great as my computer skills are terrible.

The Cave

Before we go into the history of all our islands, I shall introduce you to what is simply known as 'The Cave'.
Pohatu enters The Cave.

The Cave is not of our invention, rather, it is an invention of our older brother/s, back when they were into Bionicles. I can even trace it back to the year 2003, as that is when they got their first Toa Nuva.

So what is The Cave? Short answer, it is the explanation for everything. Long answer, it is, when we played with our Bionicle sets, how we could justify having two Tahus, two Pohatus, Two Vakamas, ect ect.

The cave works as thus: A single Toa (Let's say, Pohatu), walks in The Cave. A flash of light happens, then a newer, revamped version, int his case, Pohatu Nuva, emerges. Someplace else, the old versions appears. Early days had the early version appear with an infected Kanohi, or Krana, or some sort of mind control. Then we had another bad guy until we could be rescued. Villains were a bit short in those days.

The Cave disappeared for many years, probably around the time we realized we didn't have to use all of our doubles in games. But recently it has re-emerged. Because, basically, it can solve any problem Bionicle can through at us.

(On a side note, I drew that picture in an hour or so. Not bad, for being only my second ever Bionicle art work. And the first barely counts.)

Toa Art 4

Here is yet another Toa art. Meet Toa Moch toa of Iron.
This is personally my third of second favorite out of all of mine. The back ground is really sad but I wasn't trying hard to put something nice in it just something to fill up the empty space. Hope you people like it.

Our Universe comparison to canon universe

In the Bionicle universe there is the Great Spirit Mata Nui who is a giant robot in our universe big robo=no.

However there is a lot of similarities. Here is the setup of our universe which I’m calling the Trinity Universe in comparison to the Canon Universe.

The main difference is the lack of a giant robot and that Bara-Magna is an island to the West of the Matoran Universe (group of Islands that are the shape of Mata Nui). Also the island of Mata Nui is an island but farther to the NE from Metru Nui. As noticed there are other locations names and three islands to the East these represent the main islands from the Trinity Universe that are the center of story. So as far as locations go it’s mostly the same except there is no robot and a few added islands.

But what about the canon story?
The canon story fits into the Trinity Universe (TU) for the most part as anything that happens before the great cataclysm is the same and when the inheritance of Metru Nui left they still went to Mata Nui they just didn’t go above but rather just sailed farther on and all the events of Mata Nui also happened. As for the events of Mata Nui on Bara Magna well it is non-existent in the Trinity Universe as Mata Nui is just not really in the TU. These are the most notable differences that need to be nailed out, there are however many different aspects of Bara Manga but that is will be saved for another post as we will be going three all the new islands on the map in detail slowly then followed by characters and such.

I should note that points in the story such as anything from 2006-2009 are slightly adapted and not officially figured out how they work as we know they did happen but of course there are some differences they just need to be fixed up a bit such as the Makuta or Karda Nui are still alive along with the rest so many little things. I’ll let Hanahtu post about duplicates and other stuff that shouldn’t be there such as “The Toa”.

Help this sheds some light on the basics of how the TU works in comparison to the canon universe.

MOC find

So I found this awesome MOC of Turaga Dume and Nivawkbuilt for the BBC #69 at BZPower.
As owning the original set I can safely say this is a great rendition of it and a wonderful upgrade. I love how Nivawk is nice and filled up as the set was lacking in a solid build but was full of giant gaps. There is much to say about this MOC but I'll just let you look at the pictures on Flicker and make your own judgments.  Flicker link

Toa Art 3

Continuing with my "toa art" we have up next is Toa Bumbus
As my third attempt I quite like it. No he is a toa of magnetism not earth just in case there was some confusion. Will get some bios for the toa soon once I explain how the universe works which should come sometime next month if all goes well.

Makuta Flakes

So Onvermel and I were discussing a topic on BZPower, one about the best Makuta and I mentioned that Teridax is "The Orginal and the best". I was quoting the tagline for Corn Flakes, and thus, this was born.
Yeah, it's not the best photoshop job, but I'm not an expert at this sort of photo manipulation. For some extra fun, look at the top right corner, if you haven't already.

Toa art 2

Well as I have not yet gotten pictures of my mocs I shall continue to post my art work of my toa. So up next is toa Gornyl
This was the second one I did on a summer day with nothing else to do. I think it turned out much nicer than Onvermels. Hope you like it and stay tuned for more!

Talk about timing!

So I was on my way to some location that isn't important to this blog, And I had about 20 minutes to kill, so I spur of the moment decided to check the local Value Village. Lo and behold, I found 4 Toa Metru, a tiny bit of a Hero Factory set, and, the cherry on top of it, a partial Exo-Toa!

Now, 4 Toa Metru. what became of them? well, since I didn't own a Onewa or Nokama (Well, one that was built, anyways) I just kept them. the Whenua is replacing my old one, as this one is in much greater condition, and as for the Nuju, he was 'scrapped' and has now become a Toa of Electricity.
Some parts of the pictures Exo-Toa were not in the find, I just put them there when assembling.

As for the partial Exo-Toa, I used it, plus my 98% of my other one, to finally complete my Exo-Toa! set. I am debating on what to do with the remainder of the extra one, though my brother (Not Onvermel, another one) has expressed interest in acquiring it

Toa art 1

So today I shall start showing my art work of the members of my universes toa teams.
No this is me (rather my Avatar) in his original form and his original name Onupurple(name sucks but I was rather uninventive with naming which is why I changed it to Onvermel). Not great drawing but this was my first and I don't draw very often so what would you expect. For those who can't read the Bionicle language he is saying "I understand the gravity of the situation" very cheesy I know. Hopefully once I get rolling with the blog I will start getting into more depth into the characters and explain his old name and his new one but for now I'll hold of.

"In the time before time"

Greetings. Talking with Toa Hanahtu I came up with this parody of the opening lines of'The Mask of Light'. May not be great or even that funny but had fun and thought you folks would like it.

"In the time before time (or when Bionicle started) the great spirit descended upon carry we called matoran to this paradise (Lego released Bionicles to the crazy people of the world). We were divided and with out purpose (Lego fans were bored as there was no good Lego at the time and had no reason to talk to each other) but the great spirit illuminated us with the three virtues Unity, Duty and Destiny (Lego gave us something new with three great things, action figures, great back story, and a reason to continue to buy Lego). But Mata Nui's brother the makuta (other types) became jealous of these gifts and betrayed him (came back with similar stories and action figures) and put him into a deep sleep (Hero Factory) Now Makuta was free to unless his shadow and unleash them he did. (Lego was allowed to release a poor excuse for Bionicle predecessors Hero Factory and put them on the shelves they did)."

Note:Now just in case in case there is any Hero Factory fans reading this I want to let you know I actually liked Hero Factory however I thought it would be funny and besides this is a Bionicle blog so please do not look at this as me insulting Hero Factory.

Thank You

Onvermel

Intro time

"While Jaller Toa Onvermel makes history, you we shall record it (On this blog)"

Yeah, a mangled quite from The Mask of Light is a great way to kick of this blog! My name is Toa Hanahtu, and while Onvermel, my brother, is the creator of this blog, I am the older of the Toa brothers!
That's me. Errr, sorta....

As is the case with my Gravity friend, my first Bionicle set came on Dec 25th, 2001, but mine was Turaga Vakama! I have been a fan of Bionicle since I got my first one, though it has been the story that has kept me hooked, more so than the actual sets (Thought hings went off the tails a bit after the reveal of the Giant Robot. Meh.)
Ain't he cute?

I would have to say my favorite Bionicle set is impossible to find, as I don't really know, but I shall just choose Toa Onua, in his original form.

He was actually the 4th of the Mata Toa I got, but since Tahu and Kopaka was taken already in my family (Long story, you will hear about it sometime) I was stuck with Onu, and the little dirt Fellow grew on me. And I got his Golden Pakari in my second Mask set. That helped.

With that, this blog is officially off the ground (Unless Onvermel says otherwise)

Welcome!

Welcome readers to the 'Onvermel Report" were we the Toa Brothers of Alberta shall chronicle the world of the Bionicle canon and none canon. The purpose of this blog is to share me and my brother's own creations, art, story content, bios and anything else form our Bionicle universe. We will also being looking at the new reboot of Bionicle and the original universe as well by possible set review and any random thoughts we want to share.

In short this blog is for anything and everything Bionicle that we want to post.

Intro time!

So I am Toa Onvermel founder of the 'Onvermel Report' kinda obvious by the name. I myself have been following the Bioncile universe and story since basically the beginning in 2001 and been a part time collector.  I really enjoy building Bionicles and writing history and back stories to my own universe (which is kinda part of the canon one, will post about that in a later post). I have also done some drawing and attempted a bit of stop motion (no idea if that will ever turn out well enough to be featured).

Going into more about me my first Bionicle set was set 8542 Turaga Onewa which I received as a Christmas present in 2001.

My favorite set would have to be 8531 Pohatu. Who happened to be my second set that I got a week or two later. A large reason he is my favorite is out of nostalgia and his personality in the story was always appealing.

So now you know a little about me I hope that you visit often as we will try to post on a regular basis.
